Spectrum News1 - Local Entrepreneur Finds Success in Flower Walls

Written by: Alexa Malowski

Denisha Anderson says she’s always been creative. She wanted to give her own bridal shower a little extra something.

  • Cleveland Flower Walls launched in January, 2019

  • Does one-day rentals for weddings and events and permanent walls

  • Owner wants to inspire other women of color to start their own business

“So, we had our bridal shower, I made this little skimpy backdrop…and we put it at the shower and people were just taking pictures, people were loving it. People were asking how can I get one for myself? So, I was like, let’s see if we can go bigger with this and fill this void,” said Denisha Anderson, owner, Cleveland Flower Walls.

Just 6 months ago, in January, she launched Cleveland Flower Walls with the help of her husband, Andrew.

“I’m still in awe… I’m still like, in shock in this moment,” said Anderson. “You walk in here at 6 o’clock in the morning, I’m just like, how did this happen so quick?”

The majority of Anderson’s business is one-day rentals for weddings and bridal showers.

But she’s also done some permanent walls— like the one at Cleveland’s 9 Hotel.

“It’s still my baby! I love that wall,” said Anderson.

And the wall for The Cleveland Flea.

“I was just amazed... like, I made this wall and people are standing in line to take a picture in front of it!” said Anderson.

She says— even though it’s a lot of hard work, it’s important for her to inspire other women of color who want to start their own business.

“I hope to be that woman of color... because I haven’t met anyone that’s my age…24... no, I’m 25…25, who is doing this... there’s no leader for me... there’s no example really,” said Anderson.

Anderson says for her, it’s all about authenticity and showing the effort that goes into her walls.

“I want people to see the more’ that’s involved and to get that and to apply it to their business somehow. But it’s not easy... it’s not easy,” said Anderson

Her message to other women—go for it.

I think I stand up in it. I think it’s a fun thing to do... it’s a part of me, it’s passion, it’s all that good stuff”

Denisha Anderson hopes to eventually add more employees and grow her business.

But for right now, she says she’s got this.
